thre worst backpacker ever stay in. loud music until the morning. Some guys drinking whole bottle of whisky in the room and making disgusting noise then nearly fighting at 3 am. room was dirty. staff pretty rude. no light in half of the dorm. my bed was not ready 8 hours after my arrival. is still not. no soap in the bathroom. not a bowl or cup or anything to cook. almost didn't sleep in two night.
don't go. pay a couple of dollars more and you will at least sleep in a better place.

Absolutely love this place, friendly staff jess is lovely and extremely helpful always goes above and beyond, the place has a real groovy atmosphere feel to it. Very practical and functioning hostel, everything is easy and convenient to get too. Seriously what more could you ask for, one of the cheapest best places to stay in Melbourne. Cannot recommend this place enough 10/10

Good organisation with night arrival. Suburb seems not to be one of the best. One big downside was that there was just one shower available for the whole upper floor. The basement with a gathering room was under renovation. Beds were very old, shaking when someone moved and more uncomfy than the beds i had during my military service (and they where bad). Kitchen was even for a hostel bad equipped.

Even one star is generous. Looking up at the smashed, filthy windows of The Barely Corn, the hearts of myself and my boyfriend sank; this is the 'adequate, modern, safe hostel' which we had booked for our few days in Melbourne. The inside didn't get any better. After forcing open a side door a woman showed us through the mouldy kitchen into the room in which we were supposed to spend our 5 nights, to say the least, it was repulsive. Filthy bedding on rickety bunks, the stench of men who hadn't washed for days, dirty crockery overflowing from every surface and to top it off a glass of what was unmistakably piss on the windowsill. Also, i'm pretty sure that piss was in a communal glass, so just let that sink in for a second. As we took a second to take in the cracked paint, stained carpet and various bugs in the corners we were assured that as this was a room inhabited by a staff member we had gotten a good deal, needless to say the idea that one of the hostel cleaners lived amongst this filth did not make us feel any better. We couldn't bear to even spend one night in the place and ended up making a last minute booking at a hotel just outside of the city. Be warned; the hostel isn't close to the city, it isn't clean and it isn't safe.
Oh, and also, no hope of a refund. There was receptionist in sight as we collected our bags so we had to text an after hours number in attempt to negotiate a fair solution. Due to statements on the Travellers Trax website we were under the impression that a cancellation could be made 24hrs in advance and no money would be taken, or if a cancellation was made after this window payment would be required for the first night and any subsequent nights would be refunded. No such luck. After hours of waiting for a response to text messages and a fair few ignored phone calls we were offered 6 nights worth of credits, which we were 'more than welcome to sell to a third party'. In all honesty, I would feel like a thief selling credits for nights in that place to anybody.

Absolutely disgusting, don't stay there. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

I have seriously slept better homeless under a bridge in Canada. This hostel in Melbourne was filthy beyond beleif and looks half abandoned. i slept with my jeans, jacket and shoes still on. People were up all hours, lots of booze, weed and other drugs. Some needles left around. A number of spare change bums living there long term. I kept my backpack on bed with me as there was no locker. Did not feel safe and left at dawn.
